Guide to Staying Healthy During the Journey
Staying healthy is part of worship. Read tips on hydration, rest, hygiene, and preventing illness during umrah.

Health is the primary asset for performing worship perfectly. The umrah journey demands prime physical condition due to packed activities, differing weather, and crowded surroundings. Maintaining health is not merely personal; it is part of the effort to care for the trust of the body so it can perform worship well.

Preparation begins back home. Get a health check, complete the required vaccinations, and get used to walking for some time before departure to build endurance. Those with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, or heart disease should consult a doctor about their condition, bring enough routine medicine, and carry any medical records that may be needed.

Hydration is key in the dry climate. Drink water regularly without waiting to be thirsty, and use the abundant zamzam water. Bring a water bottle for easy refills. Reduce caffeinated drinks, which speed up fluid loss. Signs of dehydration such as dizziness, weakness, and dark urine must be addressed immediately by drinking and resting in the shade.

Adequate rest is often neglected because of high zeal for worship. Yet lack of sleep lowers immunity and triggers fatigue. Schedule your sleep, do not force every optional worship when your body is tired, and use breaks to recover energy. Obligatory worship remains the priority, while additional deeds are adjusted to your condition.

Maintain hygiene to prevent contagious illnesses that spread easily in crowds. Wash your hands before eating, wear a mask in dense areas, and carry hand sanitiser. Coughs and colds are the most common complaints in the holy land; dry air and crowds ease their transmission. Bring basic medicines such as a fever reliever, cough medicine, antacid, balm, and plasters.

Protect yourself from extreme weather. In the heat, use an umbrella, lip and skin moisturiser, and avoid being under the sun too long. In the cold, wear layers and protect your throat. Also mind your feet, which work hard all day: wear comfortable footwear and soak your feet in warm water if they ache.

Know your own limits and do not be tempted to match the rhythm of stronger pilgrims. Everyone has different endurance, so overexerting risks falling ill and disrupting subsequent worship. Where possible, choose less crowded worship times to reduce fatigue and the risk of crushing. For the elderly, use wheelchair service without embarrassment, because safeguarding yourself takes priority over forcing additional deeds.

Listen to your body and do not be shy about asking for help. If you feel unwell, tell your guide or the group's health officer immediately; delaying treatment only worsens the condition. Eat regularly, manage your emotions to avoid stress, and pray often for good health. With a healthy, well-cared-for body, God willing you can complete the entire series of rites calmly, humbly, and gratefully until you return home.
